SCC admin inspects development works

Sylhet City Corporation (SCC) Administrator Abdul Quiyum Chowdhury inspected the progress of several ongoing development projects across Sylhet city on Tuesday.

The inspection aimed to assess initiatives to ease public suffering, eliminate waterlogging, protect the environment, and expand modern civic facilities.

During the visit, the administrator directed the concerned engineers and officials to ensure the quality of the projects and complete the work within the stipulated timeframe. He also exchanged views with local residents and listened to their concerns, needs, and suggestions regarding development activities.

The inspection began with the under-construction RCC road from Farhad Khan Pool to Sonarpara in Ward No. 21. He reviewed the progress of the project and instructed the engineers to expedite the work so that the road could be opened for public use as soon as possible.

He then visited the Haldi Chhatra in the same ward, where he discussed its current condition, water-carrying capacity, and future renovation plans with the concerned officials. He stressed the importance of keeping the chhatras functional and ensuring regular cleaning to prevent waterlogging.

Later, the administrator inspected ongoing chhatra cleaning activities and the proposed site for a temporary Secondary Transfer Station (STS) in the Shahparan Chaumuhana area of Ward No. 33. He said planned infrastructure development is essential for making the city’s waste management system more modern and efficient.

He also visited the chhatra, roads, and drainage system in the Dhanukandi area of the same ward. After speaking with local residents, he was informed about various civic problems and assured them that the necessary development works would be implemented in phases.

During the inspection, the SCC administrator also visited the under-construction ghat and surrounding walkway at the pond of Hazrat Shahparan (RA) Shrine. After reviewing the progress, he directed the concerned contractors and engineers to ensure quality construction and complete the project within the stipulated timeframe.
