BGB seizes smuggled goods worth Tk 1.41cr

Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) has seized smuggled Indian goods worth over Tk 1.41 crore during separate drives in border areas of Brahmanbaria and Cumilla districts.

According to a BGB press release signed by Commanding Officer of Sultanpur Battalion (60 BGB) Lieutenant Colonel SM Shariful Islam, patrol teams of Sultanpur Battalion (60 BGB) conducted the operations on Wednesday based on specific intelligence in Moinpur, Chandidar and Kasba areas of Kasba upazila in Brahmanbaria and Saldanadi and Madla border areas of Brahmanpara upazila in Cumilla. The seized goods included Indian basmati rice, sarees, premium-quality soap, cattle, chocolates, chilli seeds, Neurobion Forte tablets, shrimp fry and cannabis.

The estimated market value of the seized items is Tk 1,41,34,000, the release said.
The seized goods will be handed over to the concerned customs authorities, while legal action will be taken against narcotics and other items in accordance with the existing laws, it added.
