Muktagacha municipal unveils Tk361m budget

Municipal authorities in Muktagacha on Monday unveiled a proposed budget of Tk 361.69 million for the 2026-27 fiscal year, focusing on better civic services, infrastructure development, and sustainable urban growth.

The budget was formally announced at the municipality’s conference room by Municipal Administrator and Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Krishna Chandra.

According to the proposed budget, the total outlay for FY 2026-27 stands at Tk 361,689,982.26, compared to the revised budget of Tk 307,507,805.76 for the 2025-26 fiscal year.

The municipality expects to generate Tk 5 million in revenue from its own sources, while Tk 10 million has been allocated from the Climate Change Trust Fund.

In addition, Tk 172.75 million is expected to come from the municipality’s General Fund under Component-1.

Speaking at the event, Municipal Administrator Krishna Chandra said, “Muktagacha Municipality is a 150-year-old civic institution.

Although the proposed budget amounts to Tk 361.69 million, we believe it is realistic and implementable.

This year’s budget prioritizes improving civic services, upgrading roads and drainage systems, ensuring safe water supply, and developing sustainable urban infrastructure. Implementation will begin once the budget receives formal approval.”

He added that the proposed budget has been prepared with an emphasis on meeting the growing civic needs of residents and improving municipal services.

Following the budget announcement, the Municipal Administrator responded to questions from journalists.

Among others, speakers at the discussion included Shahidul Islam Shahid, president of Muktagacha Municipal BNP and former mayor; Murshiduzzaman Khan Saiful, general secretary of the municipal BNP; Officer-in-Charge (OC) Kamrul Islam of Muktagacha Police Station; Municipal Engineer Sukumal Roy; Ferdous Alam, member secretary of the Muktagacha Press Club; Social Services Officer Zahirul Islam; Youth Development Officer Ahsan Habib; former councillors; and local journalists.
