Maulana M.A. Karim Ibn Mosobbir, a former central member of Bangladesh Hefazat-e-Islam and one of the leaders of the historic Shapla Chattar Movement, welcomed the proposed national budget for the 2026-2027 fiscal year and said that it is a timely, realistic and public welfare-oriented budget prepared keeping in mind the current economic reality of the country, the needs of the people, and the goal of national development.
In a statement sent to the media, he said, “This budget is not an unrealistic or ambitious budget. Rather, a balanced and responsible budget has been formulated considering the country’s existing economic situation, global challenges and the living conditions of the common people.
The budget has given importance to the development, social security, education, health, agriculture, employment and infrastructure sectors, which will further accelerate the country’s progress.”
He further said, “A country’s budget is not just a statement of income and expenditure, but it is an outline of the country’s future development.
The importance given to public welfare, economic stability and sustainable development in the current budget is highly commendable.
We are hopeful that the various initiatives taken to improve the living standards of the lower and middle class people, in particular, will bear positive results.”
Maulana Karim Ibn Mosobbir described the decision to increase taxes and prices on alcohol, tobacco and other harmful products as a groundbreaking step.
He said, “Tobacco and narcotics are very harmful to human health, family and society. Increasing the prices of these products will reduce their use among the younger generation and protect public health.
As a result, drug addiction, criminality and social degradation will decrease. Such decisions are very important in building a healthy, conscious and moral society.”
He further said, “To build Bangladesh as a developed, prosperous and moral state, it is necessary to develop social and human values ??along with economic development.
The government deserves praise for giving importance to public health and social welfare issues in the budget.”
