



A prisoner died on Saturday after falling ill inside Dhaka Central Jail and being rushed to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH), where doctors pronounced him dead.
The deceased was identified as Abdul Mannan, 42, son of Joynal Abedin, a resident of Uttar Balukhanda area in Nawabganj of Dhaka district.
According to prison authorities, Mannan had been in custody in connection with a narcotics case. Prison guard Biplob said the inmate suddenly became ill inside the jail on Saturday morning. He was immediately taken to the emergency department of DMCH for treatment.
However, the attending physician declared him dead upon arrival at the hospital.
Inspector Md Faruk, in-charge of the police camp at DMCH, said the body has been kept at the hospital morgue for a post-mortem examination.
He said an inquest report will be prepared in the presence of an executive magistrate before the autopsy is conducted.
Following completion of all legal formalities by the prison authorities, the body will be handed over to the deceased’s family, the inspector added.
