Gazipur Agricultural University (GAU) has achieved a landmark international recognition by securing the highest position among all public universities in Bangladesh in the Times Higher Education (THE) Impact Rankings 2026.
The university has also been placed in the prestigious 401-600 global band, marking a significant leap forward in its commitment to sustainable development, research excellence, and societal impact. The rankings, published by Times Higher Education on June 24, assessed 1,646 universities from 116 countries and regions based on their contributions to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
GAU demonstrated remarkable performance across several SDG indicators. In SDG 1 (No Poverty), the university ranked 82nd globally with a score of 74.8.
In SDG 2 (Zero Hunger), a category closely aligned with its agricultural mission, GAU secured the 66th position worldwide with a score of 78.3. The university also achieved a strong standing in SDG 4 (Quality Education), placing within the global 101-200 band.
This achievement reflects an extraordinary rise from the university’s 801-1000 position in the previous year’s rankings. The advancement underscores the strategic vision of the university’s Vice-Chancellor, as well as its growing research capacity and academic excellence.
GAU’s success extends beyond the THE rankings. The university has consistently secured leading positions in various international assessments in recent years.
In the World University Rankings for Innovation (WURI) 2026, GAU emerged as the only public university in Bangladesh to be ranked among the world’s top 100 institutions in the Financial Impact-Driven Transfer Technology category, securing an impressive 23rd position.
