Accused Shibir leader expelled Rape Under False Promise of Marriage

Jisan Mia Pradhan, Assistant International Secretary of the central committee of Islami Chhatra Shibir and former president of the Comilla District West branch, has been accused of raping a 25-year-old woman under the false promise of marriage.

When the woman became pregnant, Jisan caused the termination of the pregnancy. Later, when the victim pressed him to follow through on the marriage, Shibir leader Jisan went into hiding. These details were disclosed by Comilla District Superintendent of Police Md. Anisuzzaman at a press conference held at 3:30 PM on Saturday.

At the press conference, the SP stated that after a missing person diary was filed, police took to the field to locate him. During the search, Jisan’s cousin Sajib was initially questioned, and through Sajib, police began to uncover startling information.

Meanwhile, Md. Jisan Ahmed Pradhan, a central leader of Bangladesh Islami Chhatra Shibir arrested in connection with a rape case at Daudkandi Police Station, has been expelled from the organization. The organization announced the decision on Saturday after a romantic relationship between the two was preliminarily established.

In a statement posted on Facebook, Shibir’s central publicity secretary SM Farhad confirmed that a romantic relationship between the accused Jisan Ahmed and the victim had been preliminarily verified, and that he had been expelled in accordance with organizational rules.

The statement also noted that if any of the allegations against Jisan are proven, the organization will provide legal assistance to the victim.

The organization claimed that from the time police recovered Jisan the previous night until 1:30 PM Saturday, no Shibir representative or family member was allowed to meet with him. As he remains in police custody, his account of the disappearance could not be obtained, and no information beyond the police’s version was available.

According to the complaint filed in the case, the victim alleged that Shibir leader Jisan had met the 25-year-old woman through social media five to six months ago. After the introduction, the two began communicating, and eventually entered into a romantic relationship. Jisan then took the woman to his rented residence in Daudkandi and raped her.

The most recent assault occurred on May 20. As a result, the woman became pregnant. Jisan subsequently pressured her to terminate the pregnancy, and obtained medication from Sekandar Ali’s pharmacy in Daudkandi and had her take it.

Two to three days later, the termination caused severe bleeding, and when the victim informed Jisan’s cousin Sajib, Jisan sent further medication through Sajib. Once the bleeding stopped, the victim pressed Jisan to marry her.

The marriage had been scheduled for Friday, June 12. On the night of Thursday, June 11, after 8:00 PM, Jisan went into hiding to avoid the wedding and arranged, through his cousin Rasel, to file a general diary (GD) at Daudkandi Police Station.

Subsequently, on the night of Friday, June 12, police recovered Jisan from his hiding place in Lakshsam with the help of local residents.

Additionally, citing information from the victim’s elder sister Sabikunnahr, the statement noted that on Friday afternoon, 15 to 20 police or administrative personnel took the woman from their home without allowing any family member to accompany her. The victim and her father are currently being held separately in police custody, and family members are reportedly unable to contact them.

The victim’s sister was aware of the romantic relationship but claimed to have no detailed knowledge of how she was taken from the home, the filing of the case at the police station, or the current situation. Shibir stated that the true nature of events remains unclear due to the lack of direct access to the parties involved.

The day before the scheduled wedding, a widowed woman filed a case naming Jisan Ahmed Pradhan as the principal accused, alleging rape under a false promise of marriage and forced abortion. Jisan serves as Assistant Secretary for International Affairs on Shibir’s central committee and is the former president of the Comilla District West branch.

Daudkandi Police Station Officer-in-Charge Md. Abdul Bari confirmed that Jisan had been arrested in connection with the specific rape case and that legal proceedings are ongoing.
