BGB foils push-in attempt at C’nawabganj

Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) has reported two separate border incidents involving attempted push-ins and unresolved diplomatic discussions with India’s Border Security Force (BSF), raising continued concerns over border management.

In the first incident, BGB last night foiled an alleged attempt by BSF personnel to push 15 people into Bangladesh through the Gomostapur border in Chapainawabganj around 12:40am.

The group – comprising two men, eight women and five children – was reportedly brought near border pillar 220/MP under Naogaon-16 BGB Battalion.

According to BGB officials, personnel from BSF’s 88 Battalion at the Kotalpur camp attempted to cross the group into Bangladesh by boat. BGB intervened immediately, blocking the move.

The individuals were later taken back to Indian territory through the Bhabanipur area around 2:40am. Officials said surveillance and patrols in the area remain heightened.

In a separate development, a flag meeting between BGB and BSF over an alleged push-in at the Bilgatuya border in Kushtia ended without resolution on Saturday, leaving 12 people, including women and children, stranded at the zero line.

BGB said the group had been brought close to the border early on 12 June and was later pushed towards Bangladesh, prompting intervention by border troops and locals.

However, BSF denied the allegation during the meeting held near border pillar 150/3-S in Daulatpur and requested time to investigate the matter.

The six-member BGB delegation, led by Deputy Commander Nurul Huda of Kushtia-47 BGB, lodged a formal protest, while the BSF side, led by Sunil Kumar Yadav of Raninagar Company, maintained that the claims required verification. The stranded individuals remain at the zero line as discussions continue.
