‘Mango diplomacy’ sweetens Dhaka- Kathmandu ties

The Bangladesh Embassy in Kathmandu has launched its annual “Season’s Best Compliments” initiative, distributing more than 1,750 kilograms of premium Bangladeshi mangoes among distinguished personalities across Nepal as a gesture of goodwill and friendship.

Under the initiative, the embassy presented the country’s finest mangoes to Nepali dignitaries, senior government officials, ambassadors and members of the diplomatic corps, business leaders, civil society representatives, and longstanding friends and well-wishers of Bangladesh.

The embassy team delivered mango gift packs to over 360 recipients, including the Right Honourable President of Nepal, the Speaker, members of the Council of Ministers and other prominent figures.

The mangoes were freshly harvested from two orchards in Chapai Nawabganj, widely recognised as the mango capital of Bangladesh.

To preserve their quality and freshness, the fruit was transported to Nepal through Banglabandha Port, Fullbari Land Port on the Siliguri border, and Kakarbhitta Port.

The consignment featured the renowned Khirshapat variety, a Geographical Indication (GI)-certified mango celebrated for its exceptional flavour and regarded as one of the finest varieties in the Indian subcontinent.

According to the embassy, the initiative reflects the enduring friendship and strong people-to-people connections between Bangladesh and Nepal.

The annual gesture symbolises warmth, goodwill and cultural diplomacy, further strengthening bilateral relations between the two neighbouring countries.

The Embassy of Bangladesh expressed its gratitude to all those involved in making the unique “Mango Diplomacy” initiative a success, describing it as an effective means of fostering closer ties and mutual understanding between the peoples of Bangladesh and Nepal.
