The last round of the ongoing Dhaka Premier League (DPL) cricket was played on Friday.

However, three teams were in the running to become champions. Dhaka Mohammedan Sporting Club Limited did not only have to win on this day. Prime Bank Cricket Club also had to lose.

Dhaka Mohammedan Sporting Club won the match on a rain-interrupted day and Prime Bank lost.

With this, Mohammedan achieved the glory of becoming the champions of the Dhaka Premier League after a long 16 years. Mohammedan last won the country’s club cricket in the 2009-10 season. In total, this is their 10th title in the Dhaka Premier League.

Mohammedan scored 406 runs against Dhaka Abahani Limited on the last day of the Dhaka Premier League at BKSP Ground No. 3 in Savar on Friday.

Later, after Abahani scored 178 runs for 4 wickets in 24.4 overs, it was not possible to play any more due to lightning and rain. As a result, the match officials declared Mohammedan the winners by 63 runs using the Duckworth-Lewis-Stern method.

Dhaka Leopards faced Prime Bank, which were in the running for the title, on the next field. They batted first and scored 266 runs for 8 wickets.

In reply, Leopards scored 142 runs for 3 wickets in 29.1 overs before the game was called off. After waiting for more than an hour and a half, Leopards were declared the winners by 8 runs using the Duckworth-Lewis-Stern method.

As a result, Mohammedan became the champions after 11 matches with 18 points from 9 wins. On the other hand, Dhaka Abahani Limited and Prime Bank got 16 points from 8 wins. However, Abahani came out ahead in the head-to-head rankings and finished as runners-up.

After the team won, Towhid Hridoy regretted not being able to be with them on this day. He is currently in the Bangladesh National Cricket team camp to play the Australia series.

This batter wrote, “After 16 years!! Yes, Mohammedan Sporting Club became the champions again after long 16 years. I really wanted to be with the team now. I missed them a lot, I missed the celebration of becoming champions and of course I missed the trophy.

As the captain of the team, I am very proud of them, very happy for them and in this moment of joy, I am also shedding tears with them from afar. Many congratulations to all the fans and supporters of Mohammedan Sporting Club.”
