Tigers clinch ODI series 2-0

Bangladesh Cricket team clinched the One Day International (ODI) series 2-0 against Australia Cricket team after defeating the Aussies by five wickets, according to the Duckworth-Lewis-Stern Method in the rain interrupted second ODI, at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in the capital’s Mirpur on Thursday. The third ODI is scheduled to be held at the same venue on June 14.

Chasing Australia’s paltry total of 187 for the loss of eight wickets in 42 overs (eight overs were curtailed due to rain), the Tigers romped home making 195 for the loss of five wickets when they had 36 balls to spare. The Tigers had a target of 192 runs to win in 41 overs.

Bangladesh had a painful start as opener Tanzid Hossain (0) was caught & bowled by Xavier Bartlett when Bangladesh’s score was naught.

After Tanzid’s dismissal, Soumya Sarkar and Najmul Hossain Shanto repaired the damage contributing 86 runs for the second wicket partnership before Soumya was caught at the slip by Bartlett off Matt Renshaw when Bangladesh’s score was 86 for the loss of two wickets.

Soumya hit a sparkle 42. His 47-ball innings was belted with five fours and two sixes.

After Soumya’s dismissal, Shanto was caught behind by wicketkeeper Josh Inglis off Riley Maredith when the hosts’ total was 98 for the loss of three wickets.

Shanto knocked a superb 42. His 53-ball innings had five fours.

After Shanto’s departure, Litton Das (21) was caught behind by wicketkeeper Inglis off Cameron Green when Bangladesh’s score was 122 for the loss of four wickets.

After Litton’s dismissal, Mosaddek Hossain (15) was caught at the long-off by Cooper Connolly off Adam Zampa when Bangladesh’s total was 144 for the loss of five wickets.

Then, Tawhid Hridoy and Mehidy Hasan Miraz helped their side to reach the winning target scoring together 51 runs in the unbroken sixth wicket partnership.

Tawhid Hridoy remained unbeaten with 40 runs. He hit two fours and a sixer in his 55-ball innings.

Miraz remained unbeaten with run-a-ball 22 with one four and one sixer.
Earlier, Mustafizur Rahman, Taskin Ahmed and Tanvir Islam bowled extremely well to restrict the tourists’ to a modest total.

Mustafizur Rahman and Taskin Ahmed grabbed three wickets each giving 27 and 33 runs respectively and Tanvir Islam bagged two wickets at the cost of 45 runs.

Marhus Labuschagne, Bartlett and Inglis fought back against the tight, controlled and superb attack of Bangladeshi bowlers.

Labuschagne remained unbeaten with 55 runs. His 85-ball innings had three fours.

Bartlett hit a fine 52. His 48-ball innings was laced with four fours and two sixes.

Inglis made 34 from 38 deliveries with four fours and a sixer.
