Mosaddek returns
Mosaddek Hossain Saikat has returned to ODI XI after a long 1404 days.
There were questions about his place in the national team as an all-rounder, and there was also the challenge of proving himself.
Mosaddek made his comeback memorable with a great performance with both bat and ball in the first ODI of the three-match series against Australia at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Mirpur on Tuesday.
Mosaddek was one of the main pillars of Bangladesh’s innings against Australia. After batting responsibly in a pressured situation, he played a stormy innings towards the end.
His unbeaten innings of 86 runs, which included 7 fours and 3 sixes, gave Bangladesh a fighting total.
He has performed regularly in domestic cricket. In the current season of the Dhaka Premier League, Mosaddek scored 336 runs in 7 innings for Abahani at an average of 67.33 and a strike rate of 133.33. He also took 12 wickets with the ball.
Mosaddek returned to ODIs after 4 years under the captaincy of Miraz. He also highlighted this comeback with a career-best innings in ODIs.
His highest ODI score so far was 52 runs off 27 balls in the tri-series against West Indies before the 2019 World Cup.
Mosaddek is equally effective with the ball as he is with the bat. He has taken 2 wickets for 37 runs in 10 overs with controlled bowling.
He has broken the opponent’s important pair and brought the team the necessary breakthrough.
As a result, he has become one of the heroes of Bangladesh after getting the opportunity after a long time.
Despite his consistent performances in domestic cricket, Mosaddek was not getting a place in the national team. There has been no shortage of discussion and criticism about this recently.
Former BCB selector Gazi Ashraf Lipu said in an interview, “it is difficult for Mosaddek to get a chance because he is a similar type of all-rounder to Mehidy Miraz.”
He has returned to the national team as a reward for his consistent performances in the DPL and BCL.
He last played an ODI for the national team in 2022. After almost four years, he got a chance again and performed in such a way with both bat and ball that there was no sign of a long break.
On the contrary, the 30-year-old all-rounder has grabbed the opportunity with both hands.
