Businessman shot, robbed of Tk18 lakh in Motijheel
A businessman was shot and robbed of $17,000 in the Motijheel area of the capital on Sunday afternoon, leaving him critically injured.
The victim, identified as 45-year-old Lokman, was attacked around 3:15pm in front of Janata Bank near Shapla Chattar, according to Motijheel police.
Police said unidentified assailants on a motorcycle opened fire on Lokman and snatched his bag before fleeing the scene. The bag reportedly contained Tk 18 lakh. He sustained three bullet wounds—one below the elbow and two below the knee—and was later rescued by passersby and taken to Mugda Medical College Hospital for treatment.
Motijheel Police Station Officer-in-Charge Md Kamruzzaman Talukder said the victim is primarily involved in the money exchange business.
Authorities have launched an investigation to identify and arrest those involved in the armed robbery.
