‘Anti-democratic forces active in Bangladesh’

BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir on Friday alleged that anti-democratic forces opposed to democracy and people’s rights are active in Bangladesh.

Speaking at a memorial meeting at the National Press Club in Dhaka, Fakhrul said the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) is not a revolutionary party but a liberal democratic political organization committed to protecting the rights and welfare of the people.

He expressed concern over the misuse of social media and the spread of false propaganda, saying such activities are harming the country’s political environment.

“Through the planned use of vulgar language, the environment for healthy politics is being severely damaged,” he said.

Fakhrul further alleged that a coordinated effort is underway to undermine the democratic space achieved through years of political movements and public uprisings and to create instability in the country.

He warned that those involved in such activities would eventually be identified and held accountable in the interest of democracy and national stability.

Speaking at the same event, BNP Vice Chairman Shamsuzzaman Dudu said various conspiracies were being carried out against the party, including the use of what he described as “bot armies.”

However, he expressed confidence that such efforts would not succeed, claiming that the people remain supportive of BNP and its acting chairman Tarique Rahman.

Dudu also cautioned that failure to raise public awareness about these alleged conspiracies could pose serious challenges in the future.
