BGB foils 10 push-in bids along border
The Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) has said it has successfully thwarted 10 separate alleged push-in attempts by India’s Border Security Force (BSF) along different stretches of the Bangladesh-India frontier over the past 24 hours, while tightening surveillance and patrol operations across vulnerable border points.
BGB, in a statement issued on Thursday, said it remains on maximum alert to safeguard national sovereignty and ensure border security.
The force added that intelligence monitoring, patrol deployment and operational readiness have been significantly strengthened in response to recent developments along the frontier.
The alleged incidents were reported across several border districts, including Jhenaidah, Jashore, Joypurhat, Chapainawabganj, Thakurgaon, Panchagarh, Sylhet and Netrakona.
BGB said the cases involved attempted cross-border push-ins, the gathering of individuals near border fencing, detention of Bangladeshi nationals on the Indian side, and heightened activity around holding centres close to the frontier.
In Jhenaidah’s Jadavpur border area under the Maheshpur Battalion (58 BGB), a patrol team prevented four to five individuals from entering Bangladesh illegally. The group reportedly retreated to Indian territory after being challenged by BGB personnel.
In a separate incident in the same battalion area at the Samanta border, BGB alleged that BSF personnel attempted to push around 30 to 35 individuals into Bangladesh using a prison van.
The attempt was reportedly resisted by BGB personnel and local residents, forcing the group to be taken back from the border area.
At the Goga and Rudrapur border areas in Jashore (21 BGB Battalion), several men and women were seen gathering near the frontier in what was suspected to be preparation for a push-in attempt. BGB said its preventive presence compelled the individuals to be removed from the area.
In Joypurhat, (20 BGB Battalion), intelligence reports indicated that around 10 individuals had been assembled on the Indian side opposite the Kaya and Basudebpur border areas.
BGB said enhanced surveillance and immediate precautionary measures helped prevent any attempted entry into Bangladesh.
BGB further said intelligence inputs suggested that four Muslim individuals excluded from India’s Special Intensive Revision (SIR) voter list were being held at three separate centres near BSF camps opposite the Chapainawabganj border, allegedly in preparation for possible push-ins. The force said monitoring in the area has been intensified.
