Tait steps down as pace bowling coach
Shaun Tait has stepped down as Bangladesh Cricket team’s pace bowling coach. He took over this responsibility a year ago.
For the past few days, there were rumours that he would become the bowling coach of the Bengal Cricket Association in West Bengal, India.
This time, the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has also officially announced that Tait will no longer be with the Bangladesh Cricket team.
In his place, Talha Jubair is going to take charge as the pace bowling coach in the upcoming Australia series.
The Bangladesh Cricket Board had a contract with Tait until the 2027 ODI World Cup.
However, Tait told the BCB he wants to give time to his family and left the position.
The BCB said in a press release that the contract period has been reduced based on the agreement of both parties.
After stepping down as pace bowling coach, Tait said, “It has been a great honour to work with the Bangladesh National Cricket team, to be part of a team of talented and dedicated players and support staff.
This decision was not an easy one to make, and I am sincerely grateful for the understanding and support that the BCB has shown throughout the entire negotiation process.
I am proud of what the pace bowlers have achieved and I believe they have a very promising future ahead of them. I wish the team every success in their future endeavours.”
Tait took over as the Bangladesh National Cricket team’s pace bowling coach in May 2025, replacing former New Zealand all-rounder Andre Adams.
The Australian has played a key role in the recent improvement in the national team’s pace bowling.
Meanwhile, James Pamment was Bangladesh Cricket team’s fielding coach in the last series against New Zealand. However, he was injured a few days before the start of the Test series against Pakistan last month.
Pamment has been on rest since then due to a back injury. As a result, the fielding coach will not be in the upcoming Australia series after Pakistan.
Pamment is currently rehabilitating to treat the injury. It is uncertain how long it will take to recover from this back injury.
However, reliable sources have informed that Pamment will not want to work with Bangladesh considering his physical condition and getting injured three times in a year. Although he has a BCB contract with him until the 2027 World Cup.
BCB Coach Ashik Majumder will take over as fielding coach in the absence of Pamment in the Australia series. He also took charge of fielding coach in the last Pakistan series. Australia will play a white-ball series in Bangladesh from June 9 to 21.
The three ODI matches of the series will be held at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in the capital’s Mirpur on June 9, 11 and 14. Both teams will then travel to Chattogram to play a three-match T20I series.
The matches will be held at the Bir Shreshtha Shaheed Flight Lieutenant Matiur Rahman Stadium in the port city on June 17, 19 and 21.
