NCC, PowerChina hold talks on modern water treatment plant

To ensure a safe, uninterrupted, and sustainable water supply for city residents, Narayanganj City Corporation (NCC) has initiated plans to establish a modern Water Treatment Plant (WTP). In this regard, a discussion meeting was held with representatives of the international company PowerChina International.

A courtesy meeting and exchange of views took place at the Narayanganj City Corporation office on Wednesday (June 3) at noon, between NCC Administrator Advocate Md. Sakhawat Hossain Khan and a delegation from PowerChina International.

During the meeting, both sides held detailed discussions on the possible implementation of the water treatment plant project and the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU). The talks focused on the city’s growing water demand, the capacity of the existing supply system, and strategies for ensuring a long-term source of safe drinking water.

According to officials, the current daily water demand in Narayanganj city is approximately 120 million liters. However, due to rapid urbanization, population growth, and expanding economic activities, demand is expected to increase to nearly 512 million liters per day in the future. In this context, participants emphasized the urgent need to establish a modern, technology-based water treatment plant.

NCC Administrator Advocate Md. Sakhawat Hossain Khan said, “Considering the future water demand of this rapidly growing city, it is essential to adopt long-term planning from now on. A modern water treatment plant will help ensure a safe and reliable supply of quality water for residents. Implementing such projects with international partners will play an important role in the city’s sustainable development.”

The meeting also included preliminary discussions on the project’s technical, financial, and implementation framework. Officials expressed hope that, once implemented, the project would significantly strengthen Narayanganj’s water supply system and create a sustainable foundation to meet future demand.
