Measles death toll rises to 588
The overall death toll from the ongoing outbreak to 588 since March 15 as three more children died from suspected measles in 24 hours till 8am Monday, according to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).
No new confirmed measles deaths were reported during the same period, it said.
Of the total deaths recorded since the outbreak began, 498 were suspected measles-related fatalities and 90 were laboratory-confirmed.
The latest suspected deaths were reported from Sylhet, Mymensingh and Khulna districts.
The country also reported 1,134 new suspected measles cases during the same period, raising the cumulative number of suspected infections to 72,070 since March 15.
In addition, 45 new laboratory-confirmed cases were detected during the reporting period, bringing the total number of confirmed measles cases to 9,094.
According to the DGHS, a total of 57,902 suspected measles patients has been admitted to hospitals since the outbreak began, while 53,722 patients have been discharged after recovery.
