Rain may persist even on Eid Day
The Bangladesh Meteorological Department has forecast continued rain and thunderstorms across large parts of the country over the next five days, raising the possibility of wet weather during the Eid-ul-Azha holiday.
Meteorologist Md Tariful Newaz Kabir on Monday said rainfall accompanied by gusty winds and lightning is likely to continue in several regions,
bringing relief from the ongoing heatwave affecting different parts of the country.
The forecast said Rangpur, Rajshahi, Mymensingh and Sylhet divisions are expected to experience widespread light to moderate rain or thunderstorms, with moderate to heavy rainfall possible in some areas.
Scattered showers are also likely in parts of Dhaka, Chattogram, Khulna and Barishal divisions.
The weather office said a mild heatwave currently sweeping across Dhaka, Tangail, Faridpur, Madaripur, Gopalganj, Rajshahi, Pabna, Sirajganj, Patuakhali and parts of Khulna division may persist for the next few days before easing gradually later this week.
Meteorologists said daytime temperatures across the country could fall by 1 to 2 degrees Celsius from Wednesday due to increased rainfall activity, while night temperatures may also decrease slightly.
Speaking about the Eid day forecast, meteorologist Tariful Newaz Kabir said the likelihood of rain would be higher in the northern parts of the country, particularly in Rangpur, Mymensingh and Sylhet regions, where scattered to moderate rainfall and even heavy showers may occur.
He said rainfall in Dhaka and Rajshahi regions may remain comparatively lower, while most areas of Khulna, Barishal and Chattogram divisions are likely to see less rainfall on Eid day.
However, he warned that isolated light rain could occur in different parts of the country during the afternoon.
Regarding the capital, the meteorologist said rain may occur in Dhaka on the night before Eid, while only very light rainfall or a few drops of rain are expected on Eid morning. There remains a possibility of rain in the city later in the afternoon.
The weather department also indicated that rainfall activity could intensify further after Eid, with more scattered showers expected across the country on the following day.
Meteorologists warned that heavy rainfall in some areas could trigger temporary waterlogging in low-lying urban zones and advised travellers to remain cautious during thunderstorms and gusty winds throughout the Eid holiday period.
