8 lives lost in road crashes

At least eight people were killed in two separate road accidents in Faridpur and Tangail districts on Sunday.

In Faridpur’s Nagarkanda upazila, five people were killed when a bus collided head-on with an ambulance. In another incident in Tangail’s Basail upazila, three teenage boys died after a head-on crash between an autorickshaw and a motorcycle.

The accident happened around 11:30am near Bangra Kalibari on the Basail-Bhatkura road. The victims were identified as Takbir Mia (15), Limon (14), and Saimon (14), all from Bangra village.

Police said the motorcycle lost control before colliding with the autorickshaw. One died on the spot, while the other two died at hospital and during transfer to Dhaka. Police said the bodies will be handed over to families after legal procedures.

Faridpur’s incident, the deceased included two women and three men, all believed to be passengers of the ambulance. The accident took place around 10:45am on the Dhaka-Barishal highway near Shankarpasha Bazar in Bhanga upazila.

Police said a Dhaka-bound ambulance collided head-on with a Faridpur-bound BRTC bus, leaving five passengers dead on the spot.

The victims included two women and three men, though their identities could not be confirmed immediately.

Authorities said rescue operations were carried out at both sites and legal procedures are underway.
