Health minister warns on Eid measles risk

People should remain cautious while travelling with children during Eid to help prevent the spread of measles, Health Minister Sardar Md. Sakhawat Husain has said.

Speaking to journalists at the Secretariat after receiving medical equipment and saline from the Red Cross and Red Crescent for measles treatment on Saturday, the minister advised families not to take children to crowded places or relatives’ houses unnecessarily during the holiday period.

He said children, especially those vulnerable to infection, should be kept away from gatherings and overcrowded transport such as buses and trains.

The minister also stressed that healthy children must not come into contact with those infected with measles, while infected patients should remain isolated from others to avoid transmission.

Sakhawat Husain emphasised the importance of increasing public awareness to contain the spread of the disease during Eid travel and celebrations.
