Dhaka Airport: UAE’s dnata seeks role in 3rd terminal operations
UAE-based aviation and travel services provider dnata has expressed interest in taking part in ground handling operations at the third terminal of Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport, according to a ministry statement.
The issue was discussed during a courtesy meeting on Thursday involving Civil Aviation and Tourism Minister Afroza Khanam, State Minister M Rashiduzzaman Millat and UAE Ambassador to Bangladesh Abdulla Ali Abdulla Alhmoudi at the ministry office in Dhaka.
Talks centred on strengthening bilateral cooperation between Bangladesh and the United Arab Emirates, with a particular focus on the aviation and tourism sectors.
During the meeting, the UAE ambassador highlighted dnata’s interest in participating in ground handling activities at the capital’s upcoming third terminal.
In response, State Minister Millat briefed the envoy on preparations underway for the terminal’s opening.
He said a decision regarding ground handling operations would be made after the Operational Readiness and Airport Transfer (ORAT) process is fully underway.
He also reaffirmed the government’s commitment to enhancing airport operations and improving passenger services through necessary operational improvements.
The UAE ambassador expressed his country’s interest in working closely with Bangladesh’s current administration to deepen cooperation in aviation and tourism.
dnata is a global operator providing ground handling, cargo, catering, travel and retail services across airports worldwide.
Earlier, companies from the UK and Türkiye had also shown interest in handling ground operations at the airport’s third terminal.
