Minister urges inclusive digital services

The government has intensified efforts to make digital services more accessible for persons with disabilities, with authorities announcing plans to integrate accessibility standards into all future digital platforms and technologies.

Posts, Telecommunications and Information Technology Minister Faqir Mahbub Anam made the remarks on Thursday at an event marking Global Accessibility Awareness Day (GAAD) 2026 at the BIDA Auditorium in Dhaka.

He said the government views digital accessibility as a rights issue rather than charity and aims to ensure that no citizen is excluded from online services because of disability.

Officials at the programme highlighted ongoing initiatives to make government websites, e-learning systems, e-commerce platforms and public services more disability-friendly through inclusive technology and innovation.

The minister also said the ICT Division is working to connect persons with disabilities more actively to mainstream society through technology-driven opportunities in education, employment and entrepreneurship.

Speakers stressed the need for coordinated action among government agencies, development partners, technology innovators and civil society organisations to ensure equal digital access for all citizens.

At the event, several digital initiatives promoting accessibility and inclusive public services were recognised, including online police clearance services, disability information systems and accessible learning platforms.

The programme was organised by Aspire to Innovate (a2i) with support from development partners and disability rights organisations.
