World Metrology Day celebrated in Sylhet
World Metrology Day-2026 was celebrated in Sylhet. Marking the day, a discussion meeting was held in the conference room of the Deputy Commissioner’s Office in Sylhet on Wednesday.
Sylhet Divisional Commissioner Md. Mashiur Rahman attended the discussion meeting as the chief guest.
Deputy Commissioner of Sylhet Md. Sarwar Alam presided over the meeting. In his speech, the chief guest highlighted the significance of World Metrology Day and said that some institutions work silently, and BSTI is one of them. He added that the scope of BSTI’s work is very wide and directly related to people’s lives and health. He also assured necessary cooperation in establishing a modern standard laboratory at the BSTI Sylhet office.
Speaking as a special guest, Civil Surgeon Dr. Md. Nasir Uddin said that institutions can gain consumers’ trust by maintaining consistent quality and standards. He urged businesspeople to continue united efforts to maintain quality and standards.
In his speech, the Deputy Commissioner said that measurement is a very important issue closely connected to daily life, such as the measurement of clothes and the presence of the correct amount of active ingredients in pharmaceutical products. He called upon manufacturing companies and businesspeople to ensure proper measurement and quality in the production, sale, and distribution of products. He also said, “If we all do well, the country will do well.”
Among others present at the progromme were BSTI Sylhet Deputy Director Nur Mohammad Mostafa, Additional Deputy Commissioner (Revenue) Md. Nurer Zaman Chowdhury, senior officials of the district administration, leaders of business organizations, representatives of industrial organizations, officials of government, autonomous and private organizations, journalists from print and electronic media, and other distinguished persons.
