Mohammedan-Kings lock-horn in Fed Cup final today

Dhaka Mohammedan Sporting Club Limited will lock-horn with Bashundhara Kings today in the final match of the Federation Cup football at Bashundhara Kings Arena.

The do-or-die match will kick-off at 5:30pm. Private satellite channel T Sports will telecast the game live from the match-venue.

Captain of Mohammedan Sporting Club Limited Mehedi Hasan will lead his side, while Captain of Bashundhara Kings Topu Barman will lead his team.

The complications regarding the Federation Cup final have been resolved. Mohammedan have finally agreed to play the final against Bashundhara Kings at their own ground, Kings Arena, subject to conditions.

Mohammedan’s Director-in-Charge Lokman Hossain Bhuiyan said, “Last night, the Bangladesh Football Federation (BFF) President Tabith Awal and some officials of the Bangladesh BFF went to the house of our club president Barkat Ullah Bulu and requested Mohammedan to play.

Then the president told us that we have no guarantee from the BFF that Mohammedan will not face any injustice if they play at Bashhundhara Kings Arena. We agreed to play because the BFF gave that guarantee.”

A number of 10 teams splitting into two groups took part in the preliminary phase of this year’s Federation Cup.

Brothers Union Club, Rahmatganj MFS, PWD SC, Dhaka Abahani Limited, Youngmens Club Fakirerpool were in Group-A, while Bashundhara Kings, Mohammedan Sporting Club Limited, Bangladesh Police Football Club, Fortis FC, Arambagh Krira Sangha were in Group-B.

Bashundhara Kings emerged the champions in the Group-B, while Mohammedan Sporting Club Limited became runners-up in the Group-B.

Bashundhara Kings and Dhaka Mohammedan bagged eight points each playing their respective four matches of Group-B. But by virtue of better goal difference, Bashundhara Kings became the champions in Group-B.

Mohammedan Sporting Club Limited reached the Second Qualifier defeating Rahmatganj MFS by three goals to nil in their Eliminator Phase on the same day.

The popular black-and-white outfit took their place in the final beating Brothers Union 2-1 in the Second Qualifier on May 12.
