Skull, skeletal remains found in Mohammadpur
Police have recovered a human skull and several bone fragments of a skeleton from the roadside in the capital’s Mohammadpur area.
The remains were found on Monday afternoon in the Kaderabad Housing area. The exact circumstances of how they ended up there remain unknown.
Sub-Inspector Akhtaruzzaman Sarkar of Mohammadpur Police Station said passers-by first noticed what appeared to be human bones at the base of an electricity pole in front of House No. 7 in Block C of Road No. 2 in Kaderabad Housing.
At around 3:00pm, the matter was reported to the national emergency service 999, after which police went to the scene and recovered a human skull along with several other bone fragments.
The recovered remains will be sent to a laboratory for post-mortem examination and DNA testing. Police said only forensic analysis will confirm whether the remains belong to a male or female and how long they have been there.
Officials added that, based on initial observation, the bones appear to be old. Locals were unable to provide any information about the remains, and there are no CCTV cameras in the vicinity, complicating the investigation.
