23 cattle markets to be set up in Kaliganj ahead of Eid
The upazila administration in Kaliganj has decided to set up 23 temporary cattle markets ahead of the holy Eid al-Azha.
Tender notices have already been invited through sealed bids for leasing these markets.
In a public notice issued by the upazila administration, interested bidders have been requested to submit their tenders within the specified deadline.
Upazila Nirbahi Officer ATM Kamrul Islam said that temporary cattle markets cannot be set up on school grounds, playgrounds, railway lines, or near roads and highways.
He added that extortion or illegal toll collection in cattle markets will not be tolerated.
Law enforcement agencies and relevant officials will maintain round-the-clock monitoring to ensure order in the markets and the safety of traders.
Several local farmers said that every year large numbers of cows, goats, buffaloes, and sheep are brought to the temporary cattle markets in Kaliganj from neighboring districts.
Traders are also hopeful that business will be lively this year, boosting the local economy and helping economic activities regain momentum.
Seeking anonymity an official of the Upazila Administration said that the temporary cattle markets will be set up in different unions of the upazila and along important roads.
Necessary preparations are being taken to ensure traffic management, security, and health safety measures surrounding the buying and selling of sacrificial animals.
The official said that a total revenue of 878,432 taka, excluding income tax and VAT, is expected to be collected from the temporary leases.
