Police attacked in Ctg

Chattogram police have informed that they were attacked while trying to nab a “listed criminal”.
At least six policemen, including the chief of Khulshi Police Station, were injured in the incident.
The incident occurred on the Wireless-Ambagan Road in the Khulshi Thana area early on Friday morning.

Police say that the “criminal”, Wakil Hossain alias Boga, has multiple cases registered against him at Khulshi Police Station on various charges, including land grabbing and violence.

Khulshi Police Station chief Abdur Rahim told the media that he was involved in a recent incident involving the abduction and beating of a teacher from Pahartali College.

“Boga was at his house in Wireless Colony, and the police went there early in the morning after receiving a tip-off. His followers set up barricades on the road and ambushed the police.”

Rahim said, “The brickbats they threw broke the glass of my car and at least six policemen, including me, were injured by the projectiles.”

He said police threw sound grenades to disperse the attackers, but when “we went to Boga’s house, we did not find him. When he heard the police coming, he fled through the back door of the building.”

Some teachers at Pahartali College have reportedly been in a dispute with the principal over internal matters. After a newspaper published a story about the principal’s “irregularities and corruption”, Boga was accused of abducting and beating up a lecturer of the college named Mizanur Rahman.

Mizanur said that a story about corruption at the college was published in the Jugantor newspaper on Aug 28. In it, he had spoken out against the college principal Shyamal Kanti Majumdar.

He said that on the afternoon of the day the story was published, a group of young men abducted him from his house and took him to Boga. Mizanur alleges Boga spoke to the college principal on a video call while hitting him with an iron rod. They demanded Mizanur recant the story.

Mizanur also alleged that at one point, Boga forced him to sign a stamp. Eventually, the abductee filed a case against seven people, including Pahartali College Principal Shyamal and Boga.
