Primary curriculum rollout in 2028
A new curriculum for primary-level students will be introduced in 2028 after the completion of ongoing planning, training and pilot phases, State Minister for Primary and Mass Education Bobby Hajjaj has said He made the remarks while addressing a meeting on the baseline report of a pilot programme to improve language skills at the primary level, organised by the National Academy for Primary Education (NAPE) on Sunday.
The state minister said the curriculum design is expected to be finalised within the next year, while teacher training will be completed between 2027 and 2028 ahead of full implementation.
Shifting focus from traditional assessment methods, he said future primary education will be evaluated based on actual learning outcomes rather than enrolment or classroom attendance alone.
He added that teachers and education officials will also be assessed based on the effectiveness of classroom teaching and student performance.
Highlighting infrastructure gaps, he stressed the need for improved sanitation facilities and better classroom environments to ensure quality learning in schools.
According to him, the upcoming curriculum will place emphasis on language, mathematics, civic education, sports and cultural activities, aiming to make learning more practical and outcome-based.
He further said textbooks must be designed according to learners’ context and needs, with clear focus on measurable learning outcomes.
NAPE Director General Farid Ahmad and other senior officials were present at the programme.
