Woman killed in road accident in Debiganj

A woman was killed in a road accident in the Farmgate area on the Debiganj-Domar highway in Debiganj Upazila of Panchagarh district on Thursday night.

The deceased was identified as Bithi Akter, 30, wife of Jahidul Islam of Pamuli village under Debiganj Upazila.

According to eyewitnesses and police sources, Bithi was returning home to Debiganj with her husband and child by auto-van after taking their child to Domar for medical treatment.

When the vehicle reached the Farmgate area on the highway at around 11:00 pm, a speeding truck coming from the opposite direction hit the auto-van, leaving Bithi dead on the spot.

Her son, Abdur Rahman, sustained critical injuries in the accident and was first taken to a local hospital before being referred to Rangpur Medical College Hospital for advanced treatment.

Officer-in-Charge of Debiganj Police Station Selim Malik said police recovered the body and handed it over to the victim’s family after completing legal formalities.

Police seized the truck involved in the accident, but the driver managed to flee the scene immediately after the incident.

Police said further legal action is underway in connection with the accident.
