Climate-hit people receive financial aid

Nineteen people affected by climate change and disaster-induced displacement have received financial assistance and certificates after completing on-the-job training aimed at improving their livelihood opportunities and self-reliance.

The certificates and cheques were distributed at a programme organised by development organisation Jagroto Jubo Sangha (JJS) under its Loss and Damage Special Initiative project, which addresses non-economic losses.

The event was held at the conference room of the Deputy Commissioner’s Office in Khulna.
Khulna Deputy Commissioner and District Magistrate Hure Jannat attended the programme as the chief guest.

Each of the 19 trained participants received a cheque for Tk 27,000 along with a training certificate.
Speakers at the programme stressed the importance of skills development, employment opportunities and self-reliance among people displaced by climate change and disasters.

They said climate-induced displacement often disrupts livelihoods and reduces access to employment. Skills training combined with financial support can help affected people rebuild their livelihoods and move towards greater economic independence.
