Govt to expand AI training, 5G rollout

The government plans to establish AI and freelancing training centres at every upazila level alongside expanding 5G services and high-speed internet connectivity across the country, Posts, Telecommunications and Information Technology Minister Faqir Mahbub Anam has said.
He made the remarks while speaking at a seminar titled “Telecom Future: New Government’s Vision” organised by the Telecom and Technology Reporters’ Network (TRNB).

The minister said the government is prioritising artificial intelligence, digital connectivity, cybersecurity and telecom infrastructure development under the guidance of Prime Minister Tarique Rahman.

He said initiatives are underway to train the youth in AI and freelancing to create skilled manpower capable of earning income abroad, while also expanding high-speed internet and reducing the urban-rural digital divide.

The government is also working to expand satellite-based connectivity in remote, char, hilly and coastal areas, he added.

Faqir Mahbub Anam said 5G services will be gradually expanded in divisional cities, industrial zones and airports, alongside the development of infrastructure for AI, cloud computing, data centres and IoT-based services.

He also said cyber security, data protection and network resilience are being prioritised through new laws and policies.

On the state-run operator TeleTalk, he said there is no plan to sell it, adding that investment of around Tk 5,000 crore could help make it competitive with private operators.

He further said efforts are underway to enhance submarine cable capacity and expand public WiFi facilities at key locations including airports and railway stations.
