SN Nazrul Islam takes charge as acting DMP boss
Acting commissioner of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police, Md Sarwar, has retired from government service after completing his tenure, with Additional Commissioner (Crime and Operations) SN Nazrul Islam taking charge temporarily.
SN Nazrul Islam said Sarwar retired in accordance with regulations and that he has been assigned responsibility as the senior-most officer until a new commissioner is appointed, reports media.
According to DMP sources, the formal handover took place around 10:30pm on Thursday at the DMP headquarters on Abdul Gani Road in the capital.
Although Nazrul Islam was transferred to the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) last week, he has not yet joined his new posting.
Earlier, on March 26, additional police commissioner (supernumerary additional IGP) Md Sarwar was assigned as the acting DMP commissioner.
A notification from Police Headquarters stated that he would perform the duties until a new commissioner was appointed.
On February 25, then DMP Commissioner Sheikh Md Sajjat Ali resigned, citing personal and family reasons.
His contractual appointment was supposed to continue until november this year.
SN Nazrul Islam, who has now been given charge as DMP commissioner, assumed responsibilities as additional commissioner of the Crime and Operations Division on December 27, 2024.
