The time before social media was difficult for women: Shreya

Popular Indian singer Shreya Ghoshal has opened up about the existence of
casting couches and pay disparity in Bollywood.

In a recent interview, she said that although she has not personally faced such unpleasant situations, the casting couch has an impact on the entertainment industry.

Describing the current times as a bit more convenient for women than before due to spread of social media, Shreya said, “Before social media, women in the industry had to go through a very difficult time.”

She added that her parents were with her everywhere she went, as she started her career at just 13 years old, “Even if someone wanted to say something, they wouldn’t have the courage to do so.”

The singer also spoke about the pay disparity and misconceptions surrounding it among artistes in the industry.

According to her, the issue of pay is not just about gender discrimination, but boys also face the same reality.
