Top snatcher shot
An operation by Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) in Mohammadpur on Monday led to the injury of a top snatcher known as Palash, while three suspected accomplices were arrested, officials said.
Speaking at a press conference, DMP ADC (Administration) Mir Asaduzzaman said the incident occurred in the early hours when Palash was gathering with his gang in the Town Hall area, reportedly preparing for snatching activities.
“When police conducted the operation, the snatchers launched an attack. One police officer was injured. In self-defence, officers opened fire, and Palash was hit,” the ADC said.
Three suspects were detained at the scene, with two currently receiving treatment at hospital. Police recovered weapons including a Chinese axe, a cleaver, knives, a toy revolver, and several mobile phones believed to have been snatched.
Palash, described by authorities as a known terrorist, has multiple cases registered against him at various police stations, including a murder charge.
