2 held with stolen truck and goods in Fakirhat
Abandoned aluminum worth Tk 1.35 million, purchased from the Rampal Thermal Power Plant in Bagerhat district, was robbed in the Sukdara area of Fakirhat upazila while being transported to Chattogram.
On Friday (May 8), police conducted raids in different areas and recovered the truck and the stolen goods from an abandoned brick kiln in Mulghar. During the operation, police arrested two people.
The arrested individuals are Jamal (38) of the Pabla Uttarpara area of the upazila and Jewel Shikdar (32) of Naldha village. According to police and prosecution sources, Monirul Islam, Kamal Sheikh, and Shamim Hasan of the Rampal area.
along with three partners, purchased the abandoned aluminum worth Tk 1.35 million from the Rampal Thermal Power Plant.
On Thursday (May 7) evening, they loaded the purchased goods onto a truck rented from BRTC and left for Chattogram. However, local people at Rampal Zero Point and Sonatunia Bus Stand stopped the truck and checked the goods to verify whether it contained any copper or illegal items. As no illegal goods were found, the truck was allowed to continue its journey.
The truck left the area at around 1:00 am and was heading toward its destination when, upon reaching the Sukdara area of Fakirhat upazila, a gang of 15 to 16 people intercepted it. The gang allegedly intimidated the truck driver and the complainant travelling in the vehicle before fleeing with the truck and its cargo.
After receiving the information, Fakirhat Model Police Station conducted drives in different areas at around 4:30 am and recovered the truck along with the goods from an abandoned brick kiln in the upazila headquarters area. The truck and goods were later brought to the police station.
During the operation, police arrested two individuals allegedly involved in the incident.
In this connection, Monirul Islam, son of Shahidul Islam of Gourambha village in Rampal upazila, filed a case with Fakirhat Model Police Station, naming eight people and 16 unidentified others as accused.
Saiful Islam, Officer-in-Charge of Fakirhat Police Station, confirmed the matter and said that the arrested individuals were sent to jail through the court in Bagerhat district headquarters.
