Police Week begins today

With the theme ‘My Police, My Country, Bangladesh Above All’, the four-day Police Week-2026 is beginning today, Sunday. In the morning, the week’s activities will kick off with the annual police parade at the Rajarbagh Police Lines ground in the capital. Prime Minister Tarique Rahman will inaugurate Police Week.

On the occasion of Police Week, President Md. Shahabuddin, Prime Minister Tarique Rahman, and Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed have issued separate messages.

In the various working sessions of Police Week, the activities of the past year are reviewed and the action plan for the following year is determined. This year’s event will conclude on May 13.

At the Rajarbagh Police Lines ground, the Prime Minister will inspect and receive salutes from the disciplined, visually impressive, and colorful parade of various police contingents and flag-bearing teams. He will deliver an important directional address to the police members. At this time, he will also pin medals on the medal-awarded police members.

In his message, the President said that the stability, good governance, and development progress of a state largely depend on the honesty, dedication, professionalism, and discipline of the police force. The impartial, professional, and people-friendly role of the police force is extremely important during various national events and critical times.

He further said, noting that in the current era of information technology, the nature of crime is becoming complex and multidimensional, the President stated that to tackle these challenges, police members must be made proficient in the use of cutting-edge technologies including AI, data analytics, CCTV surveillance, and digital forensics.

In his message, the Prime Minister said that the current government is implementing a detailed program with the goal of establishing a prosperous, self-reliant, justice-based, democratic, and humane state.

However, if people do not feel security and comfort at home and outside, achieving the goal will become difficult. For this reason, restoring public trust in the police and improving the law and order situation in the country is our priority at this moment.

He further said that the development of police is closely linked to improving law and order, suppressing crime, and national progress. For this reason, the government considers investment in police development as an indispensable part of public safety. Ensuring a stable law and order situation is essential to sustain the democratic journey.

Prime Minister Tarique Rahman called on the police to play a more effective role in preventing mob violence, juvenile gangs, and the spread of narcotics.

In his message addressed to police members, the Home Minister said that every police member must be inspired by the ideal of professionalism and become a symbol of service and trust to the people, and must provide the utmost cooperation to ensure that victims receive their due legal services. Alongside bringing genuine criminals under the purview of the law, the utmost caution must be exercised to ensure that no innocent person falls victim to harassment.

Additionally, Senior Secretary of the Home Ministry Manjur Morshed Chowdhury and IGP Md. Ali Hossain Fakir issued separate messages on the occasion of Police Week.

This year’s annual police parade is being led as commander by Deputy Commissioner of Dhaka Metropolitan Police, Hasan Mohammad Naser Rikabdar. Under his leadership, police members from various contingents will take part in the parade.

It is worth mentioning that at the annual police parade ceremony, in recognition of extraordinary acts of courage and bravery in 2025, the ‘Bangladesh Police Medal (BPM)’ and ‘President’s Police Medal (PPM)’ will be awarded, and for praiseworthy contributions through solving important case mysteries, crime control, efficiency, dedication to duty, honesty, and disciplined conduct, the ‘Bangladesh Police Medal (BPM)-Service’ and ‘President’s Police Medal (PPM)-Service’ will also be conferred.
