Waterlogging reduction drive starts in N’ganj

Narayanganj Zilla Parishad Administrator Professor Mamun Mahmud said that the canal excavation activities have been undertaken, and work to reduce waterlogging will continue.

He said they are continuing efforts to implement the programmes of Prime Minister Tarique Rahman.
He made these remarks after inaugurating a canal excavation project in the South Shastapur area of Narayanganj Sadar Upazila on Thursday to address the long-standing waterlogging problem in the locality.

The canal excavation programme was launched through the initiative of South Shastapur Panchayet Committee Organizing Secretary and journalist Jasim Uddin, with overall support from Zilla Parishad Administrator Professor Mamun Mahmud.

Professor Mamun Mahmud further said that excavating canals alone would not be enough; illegal structures built on occupied canal land must also be removed. He added that dumping garbage into the canals must stop and that everyone should come forward to help protect the environment.
