GAU holds Tree-Planting prog

GAZIPUR: Gazipur Agricultural University Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr GKM Mustafizur Rahman plants a sapling at Shaheed Tajuddin Ahmad Hall during the university's Tree-Planting Programme 2026 on Sunday.

Gazipur Agricultural University (GAU) on Sunday held its Tree-Planting Programme 2026 across all six residential halls as part of the government’s five-year, Tk 25 crore tree-plantation initiative.

The programme began at Shaheed Tajuddin Ahmad Hall under the leadership of Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr GKM Mustafizur Rahman and was subsequently held at New Female Hall, Ila Mitra Hall, Begum Rokeya Hall, Shaheed Ahsanullah Master Hall and New Male Hall.

Improved varieties of fruit-bearing trees were planted on the premises of each hall, turning the university’s residential areas into vibrant spaces of collective participation and environmental commitment.

The tree-planting drive follows its formal inauguration on July 11, 2026, by Education Minister Dr ANM Ehsanul Hoque Milon, who launched the programme during his visit to GAU as the chief guest at the orientation of newly admitted students of the Summer 2026 term.

Speaking at a brief discussion held on the occasion, Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr GKM Mustafizur Rahman said, “Tree planting is not merely an environmental initiative.
