Melissa was dropped from film after speaking about Israeli genocide
Melissa Barrera gained immense popularity among the younger generation by starring in the ‘Scream’ franchise. But her career came to a sudden halt after she became active on social media in late 2023 regarding the Israeli attack on Gaza.
In a recent long interview with US magazine Variety, the actress spoke openly about that difficult time, her experience of being ‘blacklisted’ in Hollywood, and her struggle to make a fresh comeback.
Barrera regularly posted on Instagram to protest deaths of civilians in Gaza. She called for a ceasefire, shared links to fundraising for Palestinian human rights groups, and criticised the Israeli government. After that, production company Spyglass Media Group dropped her from ‘Scream 7’ and talent agency WME canceled her contract.
