49 women MPs take oath

Forty-nine newly elected Members of Parliament (MPs) from reserved women’s seats in Bangladesh’s 13th National Parliament have officially taken their oath of office.

The oath-taking ceremony was held on Sunday evening at the oath chamber of the Parliament Secretariat inside the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban.

Speaker Hafiz Uddin Ahmed administered the oath to the newly elected female MPs at around 9:00 pm.
According to the Parliament Secretariat, the ceremony took place at Level-1 of the eastern block of the Parliament building.

With this oath, the 13th National Parliament has now been fully constituted. Earlier, on 30 April, the Election Commission published a gazette declaring 49 candidates elected unopposed to the reserved women’s seats in Parliament.

Officials said a total of 53 nomination papers were initially submitted. After scrutiny, 49 candidates were declared valid and elected unopposed—36 from the BNP-led alliance, 12 from the Jamaat-led alliance, and one from an independent coalition.

The MPs from the BNP bloc include several prominent figures such as Selima Rahman, Shirin Sultana, Rasheda Begum Hira, and Nipun Roy Chowdhury, among others.

From the Jamaat-led alliance, elected MPs include Nurunnisa Siddika, Marzia Begum, Sabikun Nahar Muni, Nazmun Nahar Nilu, and others.

Additionally, Sultana Jesmin from an independent coalition was also declared elected through the gazette notification.
