RAB arrests escaped convict after 25 months

Members of the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) has arrested a life-sentenced convict nearly 25 months after he escaped from Kashimpur High Security Central Jail during the August 5, 2024 mass uprising.
The convict, Jiban alias Dukhu Mia, 36, was arrested from Bhairab Railway Station in Kishoreganj early Thursday, according to RAB.

Jiban is the son of Dudu Mia of the Malgudam Bastitala area of Bhairab municipality.

RAB-14 Bhairab Company Commander Badruddoja said Jiban escaped from Kashimpur High Security Central Jail during the mass uprising on August 5, 2024. Since then, he had been hiding in different parts of the country.

Following a tip-off, a team of RAB-14 conducted an operation at Bhairab Railway Station and arrested him, he said.

According to RAB, multiple cases, including robbery and murder, have been filed against Jiban with different police stations, including Chattogram and Jamalpur Railway Police stations. Some of the cases carry life imprisonment and death sentences.

Badruddoja said Jiban was handed over to Bhairab Model Police Station after his arrest for further legal action.
