MP’s wife new SP of Dhaka district

For the first time, a woman has been appointed to the post of Superintendent of Police (SP) of Dhaka. Her name is Shamima Parveen. She is the wife of Rokibul Islam – BNP’s student affairs secretary, Member of Parliament from the Khulna-3 constituency, and Whip of the ruling party in the 13th National Parliament.

The Ministry of Home Affairs issued a gazette notification on Thursday assigning this responsibility to Shamima Parveen, who was serving at the Police Headquarters in the rank of SP.

Having joined the police force in 2006, Shamima Parveen has performed various important duties at both the national and international levels over her 18-year career.

She also played a significant role as Assistant Commissioner at the DMP’s Victim Support Centre in providing legal assistance and rehabilitation to abused women and children. Prior to being appointed as Superintendent of Police, she was serving in the position of AIG, overseeing developmental programs related to education and sports for the children of police personnel.

She obtained her Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Statistics from Jahangirnagar University and an MSS degree in Criminology from the University of Dhaka.

To enhance her professional skills, she received training on “Protection of Civilians” from COESPU in Italy and “Women Leadership” training from the University of Sydney.

A native of Narail district, Shamima Parveen is currently a member of the Dhaka Officers’ Club and the Bangladesh Police Service Association.
