2 aides of Tarique Siddique put on 4-day remand
A Dhaka court on Friday granted a further four-day remand for two aides of Tarique Ahmed Siddique in connection with a murder case linked to the 2024 anti-government protests.
Metropolitan Magistrate Al Biruni Meer passed the order after police produced the suspects—Chan Mia and Mohidul Islam—before the court following their initial four-day remand.
Chan Mia, a driver, and Mohidul Islam, a caretaker, were arrested on April 19 from Dhaka’s Vashantek and Thakurgaon, respectively. They were first placed on remand the following day.
Investigating officer Inspector Md Amjad Hossain Talukder of the Detective Branch sought a seven-day extension for further interrogation. However, after hearing arguments from both prosecution and defence, the court granted a four-day remand.
The two have been shown arrested in a case over the killing of businessman Abdul Wadud during the July 2024 protests.
According to case details, Wadud was shot dead on July 19 in the Nilkhet area. His brother-in-law later filed a murder case naming around 130 individuals, including former prime minister Sheikh Hasina.
