War fallout halves Qatar LNG deliveries to BD

QatarEnergy has reduced its scheduled deliveries of liquefied natural gas (LNG) to Bangladesh by half for this year, according to Petrobangla’s Acting Chairman Abdul Mannan and industry sources, as disruptions linked to the recent U.S.-Israeli conflict involving Iran continue to affect energy shipments through the Strait of Hormuz.

Speaking to Reuters on Monday, Mannan attributed the reduction to the ongoing regional instability.
“All these problems stem from the war,” he said.

The shortfall has prompted the government to explore alternative supply options to safeguard the country’s energy security.

“We are exploring alternative sources to bridge the expected shortfall, including higher spot-market purchases and government-to-government deals with other suppliers,” Mannan said.

“We will pursue whichever option offers the most favourable commercial terms while ensuring the country’s energy security.”

Officials said the move reflects efforts to maintain a stable LNG supply despite disruptions to global shipping routes, with the government assessing multiple procurement channels to mitigate the impact on domestic energy availability.
