NCP’s window open for former BCL members

National Citizen Party (NCP) Convener Md Nahid Islam has said that individuals with past affiliations to Chhatra Dal, Chhatra Shibir, or Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) can still join the party.

He made the remarks at a press briefing held at the party’s temporary office in Banglamotor, Dhaka, on Sunday (April 19), marking the induction of several platform leaders into the NCP.

Nahid said that previous political background would not be a barrier for membership. “Whether someone was in Chhatra Dal, Chhatra Shibir or Chhatra League in the past, it is not a major issue. Those who join the NCP will work as organisers, leaders or activists,” he said.

However, he clarified that individuals involved in mass killings, extortion, or corruption would not be allowed to join the party.

Referring to the new entrants, Nahid said many of them had been working together in different platforms for a long time and were now formally joining forces under the NCP banner.

He also called on people from all walks of life, particularly the youth, to join and strengthen the party.
