Private car falls into Shitalakshya River in N’ganj

A private car plunged into the Shitalakkhya River after the driver lost control while boarding a ferry in Bandar upazila of Narayanganj on Thursday.

There were no passengers in the car besides the driver.

Confirming the incident Nurul Alam Dulal, Senior Station Officer of Hajiganj Fire Service said that the incident took place around 5:15 PM at the Nabiganj ferry terminal.

He said that the car owner had gotten off at the terminal before boarding.

“While attempting to drive the vehicle onto the ferry, the driver lost control and fell into the river. Immediately after the incident, local boatmen helped the driver reach the shore safely.

“Upon receiving the news, fire service personnel arrived at the scene and, after about an hour of effort, recovered the car from the riverbed around 6:30 PM,” Dulal added.

Driver Zakir Hossain said that he lost control due to a brake failure while trying to board the ferry. The car belongs to Noor Mohammad Rudra, chairman of a garment factory.
