ESDO conducts training on zinc-rich crop farming
A day-long training workshop for farmers on zinc-rich rice and wheat cultivation held at Thakurgaon to increase nutritious food production, ensure nutritional security and build a sustainable agricultural system.
The training was organised by Eco-Social Development Organization (ESDO) city’s head office here on Monday Canada, World Vision, Nutrition International and McGill University, organized the workshop under the ‘Reacts-In’ project under the Harvest Plus program of the International Food Policy Research Institute (IFPRI).
50 farmers from different upazilas of the district participated in the training.
Majedul Islam, Deputy Director of the District Agricultural Extension Department, was present as the trainer.
In addition, Reacts-In’s Project Manager Shahinul Kabir, ESDO’s Reacts-In Project Focal Agriculturist Ashraful Alam and many others were present.
The benefits of zinc-rich rice and wheat, modern farming methods, production enhancement strategies, and the importance of zinc in the human body were discussed in detail.
The training highlighted strategies to ensure higher yields through the use of improved seeds, proper fertilizer application, disease and pest control, and modern agricultural technology.
In addition, farmers were encouraged to set up and expand zinc rice and wheat exhibitions at the field level.
The organisers said that keeping in mind the goal of “improved crops, improved nutrition”, their main objective is to increase farmers’ awareness and expand nutrient-rich agricultural production through such training.
