3 arrested in failed robbery at Sitakunda Factory

A planned robbery attempt at Abul Khair Rolling Mills Limited in Sitakunda was foiled due to the bravery and professionalism of members of the Bangladesh Ansar and Village Defence Party (VDP).

At around 6:00 am on Monday, a group of 15 to 20 organized robbers entered the factory premises with the intent to disrupt production activities by cutting electrical cables.

Ansar members deployed at the site intervened and bravely resisted the sudden attack launched by the armed gang.

According to available information, in an effort to protect the factory’s assets, the Ansar members first fired one round of rubber bullets.

However, as the robbers became more aggressive, they were compelled to fire three rounds of lead bullets in self-defense.

Facing strong resistance, the robbers scattered and attempted to flee.
During the chase, Ansar members managed to apprehend three robbers from the scene.

Approximately 320 kilograms of electrical cables, machetes, and various locally made weapons were recovered from their possession.

The arrested individuals are: Md. Javed (27), son of Md. Siraj, from Shitalpur village, Sitakunda Police Station; Md. Shariful Islam (28), son of Md. Abul Kalam, from Phultala village under the same police station; and Md. Russell (29), son of Md. Shahjahan, from Begumganj area of Noakhali district.

Following the incident, the Upazila Ansar and VDP officer immediately visited the scene and supervised the overall situation.

The arrested suspects along with the recovered items were later handed over to the local police station for legal action.

Authorities believe that the prompt, coordinated, and responsible action of the Ansar members prevented a major act of sabotage and significant financial loss to the factory.
