DSCC begins drive to evict Sayedabad’s illegal bus counters

DSCC's mobile court and DMP jointly conduct an eviction drive in the Sayedabad Bus Terminal area on Wednesday to clear the sidewalks of unauthorised bus counters and illegal shops.

The Dhaka South City Corporation has identified around 240 illegal and unauthorised bus counters operating outside the inter-district terminal in Sayedabad and has begun an eviction operation to remove them.

According to DSCC spokesperson Md Russell Rahman, these counters are located along the stretch from TT Para intersection to Dholaipar.

The eviction drive, led by Executive Magistrate Aminul Islam, resulted in several counters being demolished and others sealed on Wednesday.

Although the exact number of removed counters was not immediately confirmed, the move represents a major effort to clear key entry points to the capital.

The operation follows a public notice issued by the Dhaka Metropolitan Police on Sunday night, directing all inter-district night coach counters outside the city’s three official terminals—Gabtoli, Mohakhali, and Sayedabad—to relocate within seven days.

DMP warned that failure to comply would lead to mobile court action under the Road Transport Act.
The drive on Wednesday began about three hours behind schedule.

It was initially set to start at 9:00am in areas such as Janapath Mor and Gopibagh but was delayed due to discussions between bus owners’ representatives and city officials, including the magistrate.

At around 12:00pm, authorities issued a final 30-minute warning using loudspeakers. Soon after, many counter operators closed their booths and left the area.

DSCC teams then started demolishing structures from the TT Para intersection and continued towards Dholaipar, Gopibagh, and Janapath.

The operation mainly targets illegal ticket counters, unauthorised extensions, and bus operators running multiple counters for the same route without approval.
